It is important to remember that it is in the construction of a log house that all structural features must be taken into account as much as possible at the same time, since further redevelopment of a wooden house is limited.
Design
The initial stage in the creation of a wooden house, however, like any other house, is the preparatory stage of construction. At this time, the land plot is being studied, a height map is being created, the properties of soils, the climatic situation at the construction site are being studied, the type and design of the house is being selected, taking into account the wishes and preferences of all family members. Already at this stage, you should consider how to correlate the sizes of future utility rooms and living rooms in order to achieve the maximum convenience for living and moving around the house.
Construction of a house can be carried out according to a standard or individual project. Model projects can be purchased at various organizations and at design institutes, and at present they are also available to publishing houses that publish literature on construction. However, any project still needs to be correctly “planted” on your site, observing fire, sanitary and other requirements. In addition, the presence of geology (soil maps) will allow you to design the right type of foundation, saving you money from unnecessary costs, while allowing you to get a strong and reliable home.
Since the construction of wooden houses and its culture in our country is only developing, the choice of a successful project of a wooden house, and even more so a hand-cut log house, is not an easy task, unlike countries such as the USA, Canada, France and Slovakia, where the traditions of building log houses are preserved. In addition, the architecture of the construction of wooden houses should reflect the features of the natural landscape, climate, local traditions, and, first of all, the wishes of the developer himself. Therefore, preference should be given to individual projects. This, in turn, will allow more serious attention to be paid to improving the aesthetic qualities of wooden houses, will help to identify the specifics of the external appearance of each house separately, and will also provide an opportunity to move away from utility. The more complex the relief of the site, the more justified the development of an individual project.
When choosing a project, one should take into account the orientation of buildings to the cardinal points. The orientation of residential buildings should provide the best living conditions in winter and spring-autumn periods and prevent overheating in summer. The most favorable orientation of residential premises is south and southeast. Orientation of all living rooms to one side is not recommended.
An important role in the design of the house is played by the features of the site intended for development. Building a large house on a small plot is not practical, and a small house on a large plot will look ridiculous.
When choosing the size of the house and its layout, the composition of the family and the habits of each member should be taken into account. Scientists have calculated that objectively one person should have 30-40 sq.m. total area, which allows you to harmoniously perceive the living space. With a smaller area, a person feels cramped, and with a larger one, he loses his sense of comfort.
An objective indicator of the optimal size of the house is the time of transition from one room to another. If it is more than 30 seconds, then such a house will cause a feeling of discomfort and fatigue. In real life, the time to move from one room to another should be no more than 10-15 seconds. That is why it is not recommended to build houses with complex passages and galleries, which take a long time to move through.
An individual house differs from a city apartment in the presence of two separate zones: residential and economic, which should be divided among themselves. The residential area is divided into day and night. In one-story houses, this division is very arbitrary, but in two-level housing, which, as a rule, are log cabins, zoning occurs involuntarily.
Indeed, usually in a two-story or attic house, the night stay area is located on the second floor, and is rarely visited during the day. There, as a rule, place bedrooms, children's rooms and dressing rooms. It is also desirable to place additional hygienic rooms, bathrooms and toilets in the night zone. Balconies usually adjoin the night zone, serving for relaxation in the evening.
In the daily area, a hall, a common room with a fireplace, a kitchen and a dining room are usually arranged. Hygienic rooms are also duplicated here. As a rule, these are "guest bathrooms". Therefore, in addition to the toilet, it is desirable to have a shower cabin there. Verandas or terraces adjoin the residential area, which serve as a place of rest and entertainment in the warm season. It is advisable to think over the scenario of rest in such places at the time of design. Then there may be comfortable and functional places for barbecues or mini pools.
When designing your house, it is better to turn to good architects who work specifically with wooden houses. As a rule, such architects have sufficient experience and will be able to choose the most comfortable ratio of the dimensions of the premises, the height of the ceilings, the width of the stairwells, the height of the steps, the sizes of the windows and other architectural elements that, during the operation of the house, will create harmony in the interior.
